Is A Wedding Rehearsal Necessary?

The short answer to this question is, YES!  The most important part of a wedding celebration is the wedding itself.  As such, it is very important to get the ceremony right.  The key to a flawless wedding is an efficient wedding rehearsal where are of the “kinks” get ironed out.

When planning, some couples question the extra time involved or extra budget to include a wedding rehearsal.  The wedding rehearsal instills confidence in the couple and the wedding party prior to the “big day”.  The rehearsal is a very important way to relieve your pre-wedding jitters.  Who wants to be stressed out on the eve of their big day?  Although the rehearsal will not remove all of your stress, it will help alleviate a lot of your concerns.

During a wedding rehearsal, your planner and officiant will work closely with you to determine the timeline of the ceremony.  You will work together to determine cues and timing so the ceremony goes off without a hitch.  This also gives your officiant more opportunity to get to know you and see your interaction as a couple.

Most couples have a rehearsal dinner following the wedding rehearsal.  This is a valuable time for everyone involved in the wedding to unwind and enjoy each other’s company.  If the families don’t live in the same area, this may be the first time many of them are meeting.  This time is great for them to get to know each other before they share the next day together.  The rehearsal dinner is also a great opportunity for the couple to show their appreciation for their family and closest friends that have helped guide them on their journey.

If you are looking for ways to cut your budget, consider having cocktails and hors d’oeuvres instead of a full seated meal.  You can also opt to have your wedding rehearsal at a different location other than your wedding venue.  Some couples have their rehearsal in a backyard.  It doesn’t have to be the same location as your wedding ceremony.

Remember, the wedding rehearsal is very important but it doesn’t have to take all night or break the budget.  You can make your rehearsal as simple and casual as you like.  The most important thing is that you practice the wedding ceremony and spend some time unwinding with your closest family and friends.
